THROWBACK THURSDAY: THE "BANDIT CHASER"
One hundred years ago, the Denver Police Department rolled out the “Bandit Chaser.” This tactical vehicle was outfitted with a Maxim machine gun, and the “Flying Squad” had fixed bayonets on the rifles, and shotguns. The Bandit Chaser was designed to deploy a heavily armed squad to the scene of major incidents, such as bank robberies, and other mayhem. It had a train rail for a bumper, floodlight, and hand cranked siren, with a bullet proof windshield for the driver, and a steel deflector plate for the radiator. On April 3, 1921, or 99 years ago tomorrow, the Bandit Chaser was crashed, scrapped and lost to history.
