US 6 lane closures in Golden start TODAY for utility crossing
The Golden intersection where US 6 meets Highways 93 and 58 will operate as a four-way stop with flashing traffic signals for utility installation work just south of this intersection. US 6 will also be reduced to one lane of travel in each direction.

Today and tomorrow (April 6 & 7), the east side of US 6 (northbound lanes) will be closed while work is done to install sanitary sewer and water lines beneath the highway just south of the intersection. One lane of travel will be maintained in each direction on the west side of the highway. Wednesday and Thursday, US 6 traffic will shift over to the east side of the highway while this utility installation process continues beneath the southbound lanes. Paving work is scheduled for Friday.

Drivers should treat the flashing signal in the intersection like a four-way stop and pay attention to changing lane patterns on US 6 throughout the week.

This utility installation work is being done in conjunction with the Peaks to Plains Project in the mouth of Clear Creek Canyon. This Jefferson County Open Space project involves building a 1.75 mile-long trail at the mouth of the canyon, developing two trailhead areas with restroom and parking facilities and restoring the historic Welch Ditch flume trail. Construction is expected to be substantially complete in spring 2021.
